SAFETY – a team effort

Safety is first and foremost an 𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘! But, it is “birthed” in 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗘𝗙𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗧! The “road to safety” starts way, way, way, before the driver climbs into the cab. It begins with the initial interview. Get the applicant to talk about what he/she thinks of the HOS, ELD’s, dash-cams, trip planning, and dispatchers. Opening the discussion to these areas provides insight into the applicants decision making and driving behavior. It also provides the initial opportunity to reinforce the applicants perspectives when they align with the companies; or to set forth the companies and explain the differences when there are differences. I believe that an effective interview is when the applicant does 80% of the talking. (𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘶𝘴 “𝘰𝘭𝘦” 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺 𝘨𝘶𝘺𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘰 d𝘰). Safety is never a destination – it is always a journey.
